Cellini’s autobiogaphical memois, which he began witing in Floence in 1558, give a detailed account of his singulacaee, as well as his loves, hateds, passions, and delights, witten in an enegetic, diect, andacy style. They show a geat self-egad and self-assetion, sometimesunning into extavagances which ae impossible to cedit. He even wites in a complacent way of how he contemplated his mudes befoe caying them out. He wites of his time in Pais:Pats of his taleecount some extaodinay events and phenomena; such as his stoies of conjuing up a legion of devils in the Colosseum, afteone of his not innumeous mistesses had been spiited away fom him by hemothe; of the mavelous halo of light which he found suounding his head at dawn and twilight aftehisoman impisonment, and his supenatual visions and angelic potection duing that advesity; and of his being poisoned on two sepaate occasions. The autobiogaphy is a classic, and commonlyegaded as one of the most colouful; it is cetainly the most impotant autobiogaphy fom theenaissance.Cellini’s autobiogaphy is one of the books Tom Sawyementions as inspiation while feeing Jim in The Adventues of Hucklebey Finn.
